Ashley Williams is the deputy CLO and COO, learning and development for McKinsey & Co., and has been with McKinsey since 1998.
As deputy CLO and COO, she is responsible for the overall strategic direction and operational delivery of the leadership development journeys for consultants worldwide. In 2015 McKinsey Learning and Development delivered about 65,000 participant days of learning, and managed a 200-plus person external and internal faculty team. In addition, McKinsey L&D is in the midst of a multiyear transformation — working toward a next generation, high-touch, high tech, integrated approach to learning and development at the firm.
In addition, through 2015 Williams co-led the global people strategy initiative for the firm, which aims to ensure McKinsey remains the preeminent place for the best talent in the world. Among many things, this includes an exciting global transformation around strengths and aspiration-based development, touching each of our 100-plus offices and integrating into not only the traditional learning experiences, but all other aspects of development including evaluations, day-to-day teams and everyday apprenticeship and mentorship.
Since joining McKinsey Learning in 2005, she has led the redesign of several core global leadership programs and an effort on faculty excellence. Williams also helped develop the first Cambridge EM College program, a unique leadership and sector/functional skills development program that hosts over 900 engagement managers each year. In addition, she co-authored the McKinsey staff paper on problem solving distinctiveness, “The McKinsey Approach to Problem Solving,” and has helped design and facilitate client leadership development workshops on the topic.
Before joining McKinsey Learning, Williams was an associate principal in the Atlanta office, where she focused on clients in the telecommunications industry, serving them on issues of corporate and business unit strategy, go-to market strategy, and product and pricing strategy. In addition, Williams was a founding member of the firm’s Customer Lifecycle Management initiative.
Williams holds a master’s in business from the Wharton School and a bachelor’s in commerce with distinction from the University of Virginia. Prior to joining McKinsey, she was a financial analyst for Salomon Brothers Inc., in mergers and acquisitions. Williams lives in Atlanta with her husband Matt and her 10 year old twins, Sydney and Austin.
